According to the Sunday Times, Enterprise and Employment Minister Micheál Martin has given the government Chief Scientific Adviser Barry McSweeny the opportunity to prove that his PhD was earned correctly and for a suitable body of work. This just simply won't happen, at least if the reported remarks of FBI consultant John Bear are anything to go by. He describes a degree from Pacific Western University as "a ticking time bomb on a person's CV". The Labour Party's Jan O'Sullivan continues to ask searching questions about the issue. What happens if Mr McSweeney fails to take the opportunity to defend his doctoral credentials? Will he be asked to resign? Why not?
